The NXP EM773 is the world's first-ever, ARM-based product with a metrology engine inside. Included with the metrology engine is automatic, single-phase, power- and energy-measurement for non-billing smart metering applications. The EM773 energy metering IC is designed to remove the complexities of metrology development, enabling designers to focus on product differentiating features. Built around a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0 core, the EM773 is price- and power-optimized to improve the capabilities of smart metering communication. An open-source, wireless M-bus–based design example using the OL2381 wireless transceiver is provided with the plug meter evaluation hardware to enable easy access to the EM773's feature-rich platform, enabling fast time-to-market.
